Wrapping up 2023
Looking back on 2023, I see a lot of making, exhibiting, and selling art. A few of those efforts are highlighted below. I've also worked on interesting design projects for clients, and the next newsletter will feature some of those.
Speaking of which: does your business have big plans for 2024? I'd love to help with branding, print or digital communications, and other creative plans. Send me a message and let's discuss!

Creative work & exhibitions
I took part in three exhibitions this year -- one solo and two group shows. Landscapes in the Abstract is a collection of monoprints produced on a gel plate which were shown at Theatre Salina early in the year. To see the entire collection, click here. The piece on the left above is "Flamethrower," shown at the Lincoln Art Center during their exhibition, Blaze. The two mixed media pieces on the right, "The Science of Splash" and "Out in the Wild," were exhibited as part of the Salina Art Center's Salon 50 show ("Out in the Wild" is still available, click here, the other two have sold).
Christ Cathedral in Salina invited 14 artists to create a personal interpretation of one of the Stations of the Cross, to be exhibited at the Cathedral during Lent 2024. I chose Station #9, Jesus Falls for the Third Time, and I'm currently in the middle of that challenge. I designed Christ Cathedral's logo several years ago, so it's nice to work with them again in a different capacity.
My sketchbooks are places of continuing exploration. Everything from color schemes, to composition studies, to experimenting with techniques, to finished drawings -- you never know what will show up. Here's a short video of some of the more interesting pages.
Holiday gifts, including a freebie for you!
Need ideas for one-of-a-kind gifts? Here you go:
Something from my Etsy shop
Gifts for a budding Stoics -- lots to choose from!
A collection of unicorns for grownups featuring medieval tapestries
Your holiday freebie: I designed a 'zine' (a print-and-fold-it-yourself booklet; here's a short video on how to fold it) of Abraham Lincoln's Thanksgiving Proclamation just for you. Look for his focus on humility, unity, and gratitude, and try not to get too hung up on the dated language. If you can do that, I think you might find his message timely, even 160 years after he wrote it.
Thank you for reading and subscribing. If you know someone who might enjoy my newsletter, feel free to forward this on to them. Happy Thanksgiving! 🦃
